The Mercedes Benz Sprinter

The Sprinter’s flexibility and adaptability makes the sprinter a class-leading commercial van.

History

The first-gen Sprinter was launched in Europe in 1995 and replaced the Mercedes-Benz TN van that dated back to 1977. Then, the Sprinter was imported to the U.S. market in 2001 and sold under the Freightliner brand.

In 2003, Mercedes-Benz rebranded the Sprinter as a Dodge. Hence, this model was still identical to the Freightliner version, except minor styling changes.

In 2007, finally the second-gen Dodge Sprinter was launched and equipped with a 3.0-liter turbodiesel V-6 that churns out 154 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque.

The Latest Generation

Mercedes-Benz stopped supplying the Sprinter to Dodge in 2010 and imported the van as Mercedes instead. The full-size work van receives an updated version of the 3.0-liter turbodiesel, NOW producing 188 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque and mated to a five-speed automatic transmission.

Finally, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter received a refresh for the 2014 model year, bringing a new 266 lb-ft of torque 2.1-liter turbodiesel I-4 mated to a new seven-speed automatic (the turbodiesel V-6 powertrain remained the same).
